Document Analysis

Understand What Your Legal Documents Say

Use Pro to summarise supported text-based PDFs, DOCX, and TXT files, explain clauses, and flag potential risks for further review.

Get a plain-language summary, or run a clause-by-clause contract review.

Document Analysis is available with Kanoon-AI Pro.

Document analysis and contract review are part of Kanoon-AI Pro. Supported files: text-based PDF, DOCX and TXT, up to 8 MB. OCR for scanned images and photographs is not available yet. Free plan users can still use AI legal chat, research and drafting.

Upload a document and choose an analysis

Do not upload documents unless you are authorised to process them. Uploaded content is processed by Kanoon-AI and relevant AI service providers to produce the requested analysis, and the resulting analysis is saved to your account until you delete it. See our Privacy Policy for details.

How to prepare a legal document for analysis

Choose the right analysis mode

Use a summary when you want an overview of a document's main points. Choose contract review when you want to examine individual clauses and potential issues. An AI explanation helps you organise questions for a reviewer; it does not establish that an agreement is enforceable, complete or suitable for your circumstances.

Prepare a readable file

This tool accepts text-based PDF, DOCX and TXT files up to 8 MB. A scanned PDF or photograph may contain no selectable text, and OCR is not currently available. Check that the file opens normally and includes the relevant pages, schedules and amendments before requesting analysis. Document analysis requires Pro access.

Decide what you can share

Upload a document only when you are authorised to process its contents. Remove personal identifiers, account numbers and unrelated confidential material where possible. The upload notice and Privacy Policy explain processing and retention. Keep an original copy so you can compare any extracted wording with the document you actually received.

Check the result against the original

Compare names, dates, amounts, obligations and quoted clauses with the original pages. Note missing annexures or passages the system could not read. Ask a qualified advocate to assess important risks before signing, sending a notice or relying on a deadline. Use the drafting tool separately when you need an initial written response.

Using this tool and checking its results

Which files can I analyse?

Pro supports text-based PDF, DOCX and TXT files up to 8 MB. Scanned-image OCR is not available. A file that opens visually can still lack extractable text; check extraction before relying on an analysis.

What should I verify in the result?

Compare names, amounts, dates, quoted clauses and obligations with the original. An extracted sentence, an AI interpretation and a suggested amendment are different things. Record missing or unreadable material rather than assuming it was reviewed.

Does a risk flag decide whether I should sign?

No. A flag helps you identify questions for review; it does not establish enforceability or suitability. Applicable law, missing schedules, negotiation history and your circumstances can change the assessment. Obtain qualified advice for consequential documents.
