The RTI Act, 2005 empowers citizens to request information from public authorities.

How it works

  • Application on plain paper or online (rtionline.gov.in) with ₹10 fee (waived for BPL).
  • PIO must respond within 30 days (48 hrs if life & liberty).
  • No reason needs to be given for the request.
  • First appeal within 30 days; second appeal to CIC/SIC within 90 days.
